Feeling like a Sad Potato?
Perhaps it's time to level up. (Using perhaps is my whole personality now. It is so much fun to say. "PERHAPS" Lovely word!)
“You are so cheerful. How can you be depressed?”
I have heard this so many times directed towards me and even said it to some people coz I didn’t know better. We have such a dark perspective on sadness - merely a normal human emotion. It is very common to feel low, especially for our generation.
Depression is a blessing. No, not in disguise. Actual blessing as an opportunity to grow. Hitting that rock bottom can be very very useful.
Before you roll your eyes at me, hear me out!
Improvement is not linear. It is zig zag roller coaster.
When you hit that low, lower, lowest, means it’s time for you to pause and reevaluate your values and behaviours. The only place you can go from here is up unless the rollercoaster breaks down.
Depth of Despair is a powerful catalyst for change. In these dark moments, your couch forces you to confront your unresolved issues. It is wake up call from your subconscious.
When everything is going well, who has time to reflect, right? But, if we don’t reflect, we can never grow. Slowing down and diving into your psyche can be uncomfortable but far less painful than the discomfort of depression.
All these dark negative emotions are actually a stepping stone to improvement. So, don’t feel guilty for feeling sad or low. Watch Inside Out and remember that sadness is an important emotion to have.
Did you know opposite of depression is expression?
So, try to express yourself. Write it out. Journaling is a good way to recognize your patterns and gain clarity.
Never hesitate to reach out for support. You are not alone. Reach out to a friend, family member or a therapist.
I am always available for a chat or coffee if you ever need.
It’s okay to not be okay. Please don’t be hard on yourself. Be kind to yourself and know that better days are ahead.
I appreciate you!
