They say, “If you cannot understand history, you’re an incomplete being.”
But, which history are they talking about? History of my ancestors, history of my teenage years, history of my browser? Also, what the fuck am I supposed to do after I understand all of these histories? What actions do I take?
I despise people who give incomplete vague advices like understand your history, stop overthinking, control your impulses. Bruh! I know already what I need to do, everybody does. What I need advice on, is how to do these. I need specific instructions. Step by step. A Phineas and Ferb blueprint. Please tell me that, and I can stop searching for a therapist.
I am turning into a very angry person, which I am usually not. Perhaps, that’s because I don’t understand my history and it is irritating me.
I have a theory - the whole point of understanding history is so you can stop repeating it. Repeating shit gets you into your comfort zone which we all know is bad (thanks to our motivational gym bros). Repeating shit makes life boring. Repeating shit keeps you stuck. For example, making the same mistake and getting into similar relationships.
You might ask, Why is this bad, Arsh?
I have another theory, growing and moving is a law. It’s a law that all the nature abides to. For example, Trees never stay the same, they keep growing. Water is always flowing. Even our planet is always moving. Humans are also part of nature. Hence, they are also bound by this law. If we don’t live be this law, what then? We’d rot. We’d grow bacteria like a never flowing pond. Our emotions are our signal that tell us we are rotting and stuck - Frustration, boredom, sadness.
If we begin to understand our history, understand our patterns, understand where our comfort lies, we can understand when and where to move again. We’d understand which pattern to break. Ironically, I am also telling you what to do. Only way I know how to do it, is talk your therapist or chat GPT! Everybody is different and has different set of historical events. A therapist will give specific step by step - lazy version. With chat GPT, you’d need to use your brain a bit.
Hence, it’s important to understand history and keep a record of your historical events in a journal. So, you can figure out if you’re repeating your loops.
Until next time!

This is such a thought-provoking piece, Arsh! You’ve captured the frustration that so many of us feel when faced with vague life advice. Understanding our history truly isn’t just about knowing the past for the sake of it; it’s about finding out how it influences our present actions and emotions. Your theory about growth being a natural law is powerful and beautifully said. Just like nature, we need to keep moving and changing to stay alive and fulfilled. And yes, finding that blueprint—whether through therapy, journaling, or just deep self-reflection—is crucial. Thanks for sharing your insights and for reminding us that personal growth is a process that requires both awareness and action. Well written
